10th Biennial Conference (July 10-12, 2025)

VISUAL ARTS PEDAGOGY: Connecting with self, place, culture and community

10th International Art in Early Childhood Conference

10 – 12 July 2025

We are pleased announce the successful conclusion of the 10th International Art in Early Childhood Conference taking place at the University of Wollongong, Australia.

This conference brought together global leaders in early childhood education and the arts, artists, and early education practitioners to explore approaches to visual arts-based learning, teaching, and practice.

The theme for the Conference was Visual Arts Pedagogy: Connecting with self, place, culture and community. Presentations combined focus on one of these three sub-themes:
• Visual arts connections – pedagogy and education
• Visual arts connections – culture, community and place
• Visual arts connections – nurturing self, wellbeing and identity

It’s deepened my appreciation of how visual arts can be a powerful tool for young children to make meaning of the world — not just as a form of expression, but as a way of thinking, communicating, and connecting ideas across domains

What made this conference special was the joy – from bespoke lanyards to playful exchanges at the podium – this conference just felt warm, safe and full of lovely ‘real’ experiences and ideas. Thank-you to the organisers!”

The conference broadened my perspectives and deepened my understanding of visual arts in early childhood. Hearing international approaches and sharing my own practice helped refine my thinking. I’m now more inspired to integrate diverse, open-ended art experiences that support children’s identity, expression, and sense of belonging.

A very well organised conference -professional, yet casual, offering a good flow of sessions and timings as well as space to connect and share informally.”

“It has made me reflect on the wider community of artists, educators and researchers working collectively to create a meaningful impact, all around the world. How my own work might hopefully add to this bigger legacy. It has made me reflect on my role as an educator, on the need to reflect more deeply on the process, as it is unfolding, not just afterwards. To be receptive and observant in more ways than one. It has made me aware that children have the capacity to teach us and show us how to meaningfully draw inspiration from First Nations cultures and ways in which we can connect to Country.”

“I most enjoyed the opportunities to network with colleagues, engage in playful art activities, and have dedicated time and space to think deeply and reflect on children’s art pedagogy and creative processes.”
